COUPE DU NORD HELSINKI
SATURDAY 22-23 May 2010
Ylioppilasmiekkailijat ry - Studentfäktarna rf is organizing Coupe du Nord Helsinki, a World Cup Satellite Sabre Tournament for senior men and an international competition for senior women in Helsinki on 22nd May. An international junior competition and a recreational team event for mixed senior teams will be arranged on Sunday 23rd May 2010.
VENUE
The tournament takes place in Töölön Kisahalli sports hall, a historical sports arena that has hosted the Helsinki Olympics in 1952. Over 50 years later, it is still a venue for major sports events and a central location for Finnish fencing. Click the hyperlink to access web-based map service.
REGISTRATIONS AND INQUIRIES
All registrations for the men’s individual competition must be made through the F.I.E. website
http://www.fie.ch no later than May 14 2010. Please notice that all the participants for men's and women's individual competitions must have a valid F.I.E. license for the season 2009/2010.

ENTRY FEE
Entry fee for an individual competition is 20 EUR / fencer. Entry fee for team competition is 30 EUR / team.
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
All fencing equipment must conform to the F.I.E. standards. F.I.E. Satellite and Coupe du Nord rules will be followed.

Ladies' Individual Sabre (international challenge):
Registration and weapon control end at 10.30
Pools begin at 11.00
Men's Individual Sabre (satellite World Cup):
Registration and weapon control end at 11.00
Pools begin at 11.30
Sunday 23 May 2010:
Open junior competition, men / women:
Registration and weapon control end at 9:30
Competition begins at 10:00
Open team competition, mixed senior:
Registration and weapon control end at 10.30
Competition begins at 11.00
THE COMPETITION FORMAT / INDIVIDUAL COMPETITIONS
• one pre-tournament round of pools, no elimination from this round
• second round of pools, seeded by the results from the first round, 20-30 % fencers eliminated after this round
• direct elimination, seeded by the results from the second round of pools
• F.I.E. regulations will be applied
OTHER INFORMATION
The venue Töölön Kisahalli is in the city centre, next to the Finnish National Opera and the Olympic Stadium. Most hotels or hostels in the Helsinki city centre will have public transportation access to the venue. Tram lines 3, 4, 7, 8 and 10 will stop in front of the venue.

After the individual event traditional Finnish sauna facilities and a Coupe du Nord banquet will be made available for all participants and their entourage in return for a nominal charge.
