COUPE DU NORD HELSINKI

Ylioppilasmiekkailijat ry - Studentfäktarna rf is organizing Coupe du Nord Helsinki World Cup Satellite Sabre Tournament for senior men and women in Helsinki on 24 May 2008.

VENUE
The tournament takes place in Tenaille von Fersen, in the historical island fortress Suomenlinna in Helsinki. Please notice that the fortress is situated on the islands in the Helsinki Harbour and can be reached only by boat (see additional details later).

REGISTRATIONS AND INQUIRIES
All registrations must be made through the F.I.E. website www.fie.ch no later than May 16 2008. Please notice that all the participants for men's and women's individual competitions must have a valid F.I.E. license for the season 2007/2008.

ENTRY FEE
Entry fee for an individual competition is EUR 20:- / fencer.

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
All fencing equipment must conform to the F.I.E. standards. F.I.E. Satellite and Coupe du Nord rules will be followed.

SCHEDULE:
Saturday 24.5.2008:
Ladies' Individual Sabre:
registration and weapon control end at 9.30
the pools begin at 10.00
Men's Individual Sabre:
registration and weapon control end at 11.00
the pools begin at 11.30
Sunday 25.5.2008:
Open team competition:
registration and weapon control end at 9.30
the competition begins at 10.00

THE COMPETITION FORMAT / INDIVIDUAL COMPETITIONS
- one pre-tournament round of pools, no elimination from this round
- second round of pools, seeded by the results from the first round, 20-30 % fencers eliminated after this round
- direct elimination, seeded by the results from the second round of pools.
- F.I.E. regulations will be applied.

Head of the Coupe du Nord Helsinki competition is Ms. Anne Veinola.



OTHER INFORMATION
Tenaille von Fersen is situated on the island fortress of Suomenlinna near the Helsinki harbour. The ferries and water buses for Suomenlinna leave from Market Place, taking about 15 minutes to reach the islands. Please notice that there are two companies sailing to Suomenlinna. The Helsinki City Traffic ferry boats have their pier near the President's Castle and City Traffic tickets are valid on the boats. There is a ten-minute walk from the City Traffic pier at Suomenlinna to the competition venue. The waterbuses departing near Havis Amanda fountain are privately owned and the fee is higher but they sail closer to Tenaille von Fersen. More information: www.suomenlinna.fi

YLIOPPILASMIEKKAILIJAT ANNIVERSARY BANQUET
As the competition will also be the 60th anniversary competition of Ylioppilasmiekkailijat fencing club, a banquet will be arranged Saturday evening (24 May) at Tenaille von Fersen. The price of the banquet is approx. 50 €. Dress code: Semi-Formal (Black Tie Optional).
