10th POLAR - FENCING COMPETITION IN OULU, FINLAND, 5th. - 6th October .2013 The fencing club of Oulu warmly welcomes all foreign fencers to our 10th Polar competition, with both team and individual competitions for seniors in all three weapons, and foil cadet and minime competitions. U20 junior foil events are combined with the senior events. The senior foil and sabre competitions are part of the new Finnish Fencing Cup competition circuit. LOCATION The Oulu international airport is easily reached both direct (from some destinations) and via Helsinki and Stockholm. The competition is organised in Linnanmaan liikuntahalli sport hall near the university of Oulu with good bus connections from the city centre. Oulu offers many accommodation options, including both affordable budget hotels (http://www.omenahotels.com/our-hotels/finland/oulu/) and a number of other options (please refer to eg. http://www.hotels.com for full list). SCHEDULE SATURDAY 5.10.2013 EPÉE, SABRE, CADET FOIL 8.00 Venue open 9.00 Mens and womens epée competitions start 11.00 Cadet boys and cadet girls competitions start 13.00 Mens and womens sabre competitions start 13.00 Epée team competitions start 15.00 Cadet foil team and sabre team competitions start SUNDAY 6.10.2013 FOIL SENIOR&JUNIOR, UNDER 15 FOIL 8.00 Venue opens 9.00 Mens and junior boys foil competition starts 10.00 Womens and junior girls foil competition starts 11.00 U15 boys and U15 girls competitions start 13.00 Foil team competitions start 14.00 U15 foil team competitions begin REGISTRATION Registration via Ophardt by 27th of September. Email registrations to ilmot@oulunmiekkailuseura.fi. Team competition registration is done in the venue. FEES Competition fees - 25 euro / weapon (including individual and team competitions) - 30 euroa / weapon for those registering after 27th. REFEREES 1 - 3 fencers - no obligations 4 - 6 fencers - 1 referee 7 - n fencers - 2 referee Inform the available referees when registering for the competition. COMPETITION FORMAT At each weapon, the individual competition is organised with one round of pools and a direct elimination. Team competition is organised in a “friendship format” based on the results of the individual competition to produce as even teams as possible. Team competition is organised as a direct elimination with matches for 3rd, 5th and 7th position. If more than 8 teams, the team competition is divided into A and B divisions. LICENCE Participants need a valid FIE licence, or a national licence of a FIE member federation. 800N equipment compulsory in cadet and senior competitions. In under 15 only plastron 800N, others 350N. FIE blades are not required in any category. The conductive bib is used in all foil categories. Welcome!
